Thanks to the innovative patterns developed in Sentinet3,it is possible to monitor at the same time hundreds of parameters for more complex servers with a simple click.
In this article we will show you what you can do on an Exchange Server.

Microsoft Exchange is one of the most popular email servers used by businesses, whose proper functioning is essential to the company business.

Sentinet3 provides “Sentinet3 Exchange Pattern”, a specific control package that permits the monitoring of an Exchange Server.

For the monitoring of Exchange Server, the pattern uses the native technology WMI (Windows Management Infrastructure), developed by Microsoft for remote management of data and applications in the Enterprise settings.

Immersed in a modular, expandable and integrated infrastructure, the Pattern allows you to monitor the essential parameters of an Exchange server, at a detailed level defined
by the user, ranging from macroscopic (size of message queues, server load) to the microscopic (specific data on individual transport protocols for example).
Some of the checks that “Sentinet3 Exchange Pattern” carries out on the server are:

  • Reachability of the machine
  • CPU usage
  • MEM usage
  • Disk space

In particular, using the WMI technology of, the pattern is able to monitor:

The size of all message queues managed by Transport hub

  • TotalMessaggeRitrasmitted monitoring the Transport Hub, returns the total number of messages retransmitted
  • SendQueque monitoring the Transport Hub, returns the total number of messages sent

Load for Mailbox server

  • ForwardedMessages-sec checks messages sent in seconds
  • Forwarded_Messages checks forwarded messages
  • Operations_RPC_sec RPC mechanisms, checks the number of operations per second
  • RpcSlowPacket RPC mechanisms, checks the number of slow packets
  • ldap_readings_for_second monitoring client activity, it returns the number of LDAP readings per second
  • Queued_Messages monitoring client activity, it returns the number of messages queued for reception
  • Sent_Messages monitoring client activities, checks the number of messages sent
  • Sent_Messages-sec monitoring client activities, checks the number of messages per second sent
  • TotalMessagesSent monitoring client activities, checks over the total number of messages sent

Any congestion RPC mechanisms that are essential for the functioning of the infrastructure

  • RPC_Request RPC mechanisms, checks the number of requests
  • Latency_RPC monitoring RPC mechanisms, check out the average latency

Sentinet3, in particular, monitors the main client of an Exchange Server

OWA

  • OWA_SentMessages OWA monitoring, checks the number of messages sent
  • OWA_ExpiredResearch OWA monitoring, checks the number of expired searches
  • OWA_AverageSearchTime OWA monitoring, checks the average search time
  • OWA_AverageResponseTime OWA monitoring, checks the average response time
  • OWA_ConnectedUsers OWA monitoring, checks users online

ActiveSync

  • ActiveSync_AverageTimeRequired checks the average time of requests
  • Ping
