Linux Monitoring
Memory, CPU, disks, processes and network interfaces of Linux servers in a single package of checks, so you always know what is keeping your machines busy.
Server load, always in view
Every IT administrator has to keep an eye on the activity and load of their machines, especially servers, where operational availability must be maximised: this means knowing at all times which tasks are keeping them busy. Doing it by hand is laborious and time-consuming.
The Sentinet³ Linux Server Pattern provides full access to the hardware and operating system level monitoring for all Linux versions, including Red Hat and Fedora, on both x86 systems and AMD64/EM64T architectures.
| At a glance | |
|---|---|
| Pattern | Sentinet³ Linux Server Pattern |
| Distributions | All Linux versions, including Red Hat and Fedora |
| Architectures | x86, AMD64/EM64T |
| Scope | Hardware, operating system, processes, network interfaces |
The Pattern’s checks
Every check has operator-configurable thresholds and sends notifications when values exceed them.
System
| Check | What it verifies |
|---|---|
| Reachability | The machine responds on the network |
| /tmp | Space used in the /tmp directory |
| Mem | Percentage of memory in use |
| Swap | Percentage of swap space in use |
| CPU | CPU utilisation |
| Disk | Percentage of disk space |
| Interface | Interfaces UP or DOWN |
| Process_running | A process is running |
| Process_mem | Memory used by a specific process |
| Process_num | Number of running processes |
Network interfaces
With a single query to the server, the Pattern returns this information for each interface.
| Check | What it verifies |
|---|---|
| Status | Interface status, up or down |
| IP address | IP address of the interface |
| MAC | MAC address of the interface |
| Speed | Interface speed, in Mbit |
| Packet Error | Number of packets with errors |
| Traffic | Inbound and outbound traffic |
Why a dedicated Pattern is needed
- Server operations: server operations must be maximised, so you always need to know which tasks are keeping the machines busy.
- Less manual work: checking activity and load, laborious when done by hand, becomes a set of ready-made checks.
- A single query for the interfaces: status, addresses, speed, errors and traffic of every interface arrive together.
