WebLogic Monitoring

Status and load of the WebLogic server and the behaviour of its components: JDBC connections, Enterprise JavaBeans and JVM, with the J2EE and Java applications running on it.

The server’s components, one by one

WebLogic is one of the most widely used J2EE-compatible application servers: monitoring it is essential for applications to work properly.

With the Sentinet³ WebLogic Pattern, every administrator can check whether the server is up and see its load. The Pattern also provides information on the behaviour of the server’s various components, monitoring the performance and health of the J2EE and Java applications running on it: JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) connections, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) and JVM, including the connections, requests, transactions and servlets associated with the server.

What it checks

The Pattern’s checks

The Pattern includes 24 checks. Each has configurable thresholds and generates a notification when values exceed them.

JDBC

CheckWhat it verifies
FailuresToReconnectCountNumber of times the connection pool failed to reconnect to the data store
ConnectionDelayTimeAverage time needed to connect to the connection pool
ActiveConnectionsCurrentCountActive connections in the JDBC pool
ActiveConnectionsHighCountMaximum number of active connections in the JDBC pool
LeakedConnectionsCountConnections taken from the pool and never returned
CurrCapacityDatabase connections currently in the JDBC pool
NumAvailableSessions available in the pool and not in use
WaitingForConnectionCurrentCountRequests waiting for a connection from the pool

EJB

CheckWhat it verifies
AccessTotalCountTotal attempts to obtain an EJB instance from the free pool
BeansInCurrentUseCountInstances currently in use
CachedBeansCurrentCountBeans in the execution cache
ActivationCountActivated beans
PassivationCountEJBs removed from the execution cache
CacheAccessCountTotal attempts to access an EJB from the execution cache
CacheMissCountFailed attempts to access an EJB from the execution cache

JVM

CheckWhat it verifies
HeapSizeCurrentMemory, in bytes, of the WebLogic server’s JVM
HeapFreeCurrentFree memory, in bytes, in the WebLogic server’s JVM
OpenSocketsCurrentCountOpen sockets on the server receiving requests
AcceptBacklogRequests waiting for a TCP connection
ExecuteThreadCurrentIdleCountIdle threads in the server’s execute queue
PendingRequestCurrentCountPending requests in the server’s execute queue
TransactionCommittedTotalCountTotal transactions processed by the server
TransactionRolledBackTotalCountTotal transactions rolled back
InvocationTotalCountNumber of invocations of a servlet running on the server
