Environmental Monitoring with ProbeBox

Flooding, smoke, temperature and power in the data center detected by ProbeBox sensors, with the option of triggering a sequential shutdown of the servers.

Protecting the data center from environmental risks

Rising temperatures in data center rooms, caused for example by a cooling system malfunction, are one of the most frequent causes of the collapse of an entire IT infrastructure.

This is why Sentinet³ relies on the ProbeBox, a device fitted with dedicated sensors that measure flooding, smoke, temperature and electrical power. The Sentinet³ ProbeBox Pattern queries the device via SNMP and extracts the values of interest.

Following preset events, such as a power failure detected by checking the UPS units or a temperature above threshold detected by the thermal sensors, Sentinet³ can carry out a sequential shutdown of the entire data center or of a selected group of servers.

An orderly shutdown, a fast recovery

  • Temperature under control: overheating of data center rooms is among the most frequent causes of IT infrastructure collapse.
  • Sequential shutdown: on preset events, Sentinet³ shuts down the entire data center or a selected group of servers in sequence.
  • No inconsistencies: a sudden or out-of-sequence shutdown of services and servers would cause inconsistencies that would prevent normal operations from being restored quickly.
