Emergency professionals work with Sentinet³: “We must always have the highest guarantee of stability.”
Project overview
| Customer | Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) in Rome, Centro Nazionale Terremoti (National Earthquake Centre) |
| Objective | Protect the stability of the IT network, in a context where emergencies are an everyday occurrence |
| Environment | 60 machines, 230 services, around 600 email accounts, many highly integrated software applications |
| Results | Early warnings by email and SMS, many problems solved autonomously, contained costs |
No room for improvisation
There are sectors where emergencies are an everyday occurrence, nothing can be left to improvisation and the margin of error must be kept to a minimum. This is why the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia in Rome chose Sentinet³, and three years on it still considers it a guarantee for its IT network.
The Institute’s IT system is a very complex structure: 60 machines, 230 services and around 600 email accounts, as well as a wide variety of software working with a high degree of integration.
“Before Sentinet³ we had no monitoring system at all, but we knew that the need to protect our network could no longer be postponed.”

Customisable and proactive monitoring
After putting it to the test, the Institute chose Sentinet³ over competing products. It needed a highly customisable monitoring system, and Sentinet³ was supplied with a set of modules already able to deal with the network’s potential problems.
One of its features is proactivity, that is the ability to stay one step ahead: the system warns by email or SMS of potentially dangerous situations before they turn into real problems.
“We are emergency professionals and we cannot afford to be caught in an emergency ourselves because of problems with the IT network. We were surprised by its ability to solve many problems autonomously: log analysis showed us that Sentinet³ stepped in a great many times, solving problems independently.”

Time and resources for the Institute’s mission
- More time to devote to institutional activities.
- Contained costs: according to the head of the service, a cost well below the market average and no additional licences to extend monitoring to new machines.
- Innovation in safety: in the months marked by the Abruzzo earthquake, with the Institute constantly managing the emergency, a video wall was put into operation that gathers data from several sources: maps, seismicity situations, waveforms and much other information. A highly innovative step, taken with the peace of mind provided by Sentinet³ monitoring.
